UVA Breast Care Program
A Multi-Disciplinary Approach
The UVA Breast Care Program offers advanced screening options for women getting mammograms and a personalized care plan for women who need breast cancer treatment. Our multi-disciplinary team is committed to the early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of breast disease. We offer state of the art screening, including tomosynthesis (3D mammography), individually tailored breast care, and second opinions.
The UVA Breast Care Program is the regionís only center with dedicated breast surgery and imaging. Our radiologists specialize in only reading breast imaging studies and UVAís fellowship trained breast surgeons who work exclusively with breast disease.
In conjunction with the Breast Care Program, UVA Cancer Center's High Risk Breast and Ovarian Cancer Program works with women who are at a higher risk for developing breast and ovarian cancer. Each woman receives a tailored approach based on her personal history and risk profile. She may also receive genetic testing and counseling.
We also provide convenient screening mammography through our mobile mammography unit. For those without health insurance, the Breast Care Program can offer assistance to help cover the cost of a mammogram through the Every Woman's Life Program.
UVA Breast Care Program is located in Charlottesville and regionally in Culpeper and Orange. For more information about our services, please contact us at 434-924-1555 or visit UVA Breast Care Program.
Proceeds Benefit the UVA Breast Care Program
Over the past several years, the Charlottesville Women's Four Miler has enabled the UVA Breast Care Program to offer programs and services that directly impact patients and their families. With generous funding from the 2012 Charlottesville Womenís Four Miler, the UVA Breast Care Program was able to fund numerous projects and services designed to further improve patient care and expand access to breast care services. A few examples:
- Increased access to early detection screenings for rural and underserved communities in Southwest Virginia
- Patient education video, navigation notebook, and related education materials for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients
- Purchase of a dedicated Breast PET (Positron Emission Technology) Ring Scanner
- Screening mammograms for uninsured and low-income women
- Massage services for mastectomy patients
- 3-Dimensional mammograms (Tomosynthesis), which are currently not covered by insurance
- Care kits specially designed for the newly diagnosed breast cancer patient
